The naturalist Steve Irwin also known as the crocodile hunter probably heightened the interest of people toward the reptilian species of crocodiles and alligators. He was known throughout the world for his work with endangered animals and founded his Australian Zoo with that principal in mind. We have discovered that crocodiles get their name from the Greeks which when translated describes them as a "worm on the stony river bank" and also in ancient Egypt the Greeks worshipped the Egyptian crocodile god Sobek.Crocodiles have changed little since the age of the dinosaurs. When studying a crocodile it is fairly easy to distinguish it from an alligator as alligators have much wider snouts and rounded mouths. The alligator does not seem as aggressive as the crocodile, but neither should be challenged. The Australian zoo has a male crocodile 130 years old named Mr. Freshy. He was rescued by Steve after being shot and lost the sight of one eye as the result of the shooting. Which brings us to the subject of toys.Shortly after the death of Steve Irwin by a stingray attack, K&M toys released a line of toys that Irwin had developed earlier to benefit his Australian Zoo. The educational benefit of these toys for childen to better know and understand a part of wildlife is important. Bindi Irwin, Steve's daughter and her mother Terri will continue the legacy of husband and father Steve by performing on television shows and continuing the toy line.
